Are Realtones Taking Over the Role of the Polyphonic Ringtones Sooner Than We All Expected? by Pete Moret
The polyphonic ringtones were the follow up of the monophonic ringtones, but it took quite a while before the polyphonic ringtones were the most popular product in the mobile entertainment market. Now the realtones are the follow up of the polyphonic ringtones, but it seems that the realtones are already immensely popular, almost more popular than the polyphonic ringtones. Why is the realtones market growing so fast?
One explanation of why realtones are so popular these days could be because realtones are more 'real' than the polyphonic ringtones. The difference between polyphonic and monophonic ringtones is only a little more beeps in the polyphonic ringtones. Which made polyphonic ringtones more realistic than monophonic ringtones. But the difference between realtones and polyphonic ringtones is much bigger, realtones are now the real songs of real artists, no more beeps! And because it isn't very hard to create a realtone in comparison with a polyphonic ringtone in a little amount of time there were more realtones available than polyphonic ringtones. So the choice was huge! So the explanation could be that realtones are more realistic and therefor more cooler than polyphonic ringtones.
Another reason could be the marketing done by ringtone providers and cell phone companies. There isn't a single phone available in stores that only supports polyphonic ringtones. They all support realtones! And that's also what their adverts shout at us: that their mobile cell phones support realtones. Also the big ringtone companies are brainwashing us with their realtones ads for your phone, and how cool a real song on your mobile cell phone is. We literally wouldn't know where to buy a polyphonic ringtone anymore.
Realtones are mostly twice the price of polyphonic ringtones, why would people still buy them? The monophonic ringtones and the polyphonic ringtones were always the same price, so it wasn't such a hard choice to choose which one you would buy. But realtones cost twice the money a polyphonic ringtone would cost these days! Why wouldn't you just buy a polyphonic ringtone instead? Well, probably because money doesn't matter. Yes you've read that right, money doesn't matter. Mostly young adolescents have mp3 supported cell phones, and it's becoming a bigger and bigger problem that a lot of those young adolescents are still having huge debts because of their addiction of their cell phone. Some young adolescents are spending hundreds of dollars per month on calling credit balance. So the little more money for the realtone doesn't really matter in the big picture.
So that's probably why the realtones are becoming so popular so fast. Because they are more realistic. And we don't know any better, we are being brainwashed by adverts to buy realtones and realtones supported phones so much that we wouldn't even know a place to buy a polyphonic ringtone anymore. And the costs? Ah well... so what, we have enough money!
