Sony Ericsson finally has stepped into the fashion mobile phone category with their latest offering - the Sony Ericsson S500i. The handset is currently available in two colour solutions - mysterious green and spring yellow. The front fascia is clad in black lacquered plastic, while the rear utilizes soft touch finish. The sliding action used in the Sony Ericsson S500i is devoid of any glitch despite its manufacturer's relative inexperience in this field. The slider measures 99x47x14, while it tips the scales at 94 grams, meaning that it is petty enough to slip into any place you want.
The device is equipped with a 2 MP camera with a CMOS matrix. Highest picture resolution of the camera module is 1632x1224 pixels, though you can opt for lower resolution pictures with two different data compression - normal and fine. The camera features a multi-shot or burst mode that captures four still images consecutively so that you can pick the best of the lot. Self timer, adjustable white balance, special effects and other such imaging aids makes mobile photography with the Sony Ericsson S500i a pleasurable experience. The 262k coloured TFT screen serves as the viewfinder while in camera mode.
The handset is endowed with a media player at par with the Walkman media player 1.4, minus the bells and whistles like Album Art and Track ID. To use the Sony Ericsson S500i as a mobile music player, one has to rely on an external memory card (M2) as the handset's internal memory of about 20 Mb is nearly insignificant.
